AI By My Side is a Chrome extension that lets users select text on a webpage
and generate AI-powered summaries, explanations, translations, or visualizations
of that selection.
What Data We Handle
Selected text/content: When you use a feature (Summarize, Explain,
Translate, Visualize), the text you select on a webpage is sent directly from your
browser to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. This content is not stored,
logged, or seen by us.
Gemini API key: You provide your own Gemini API key, which is stored
locally on your device using Chrome's storage API (chrome.storage.local).
It is never transmitted to us or any server we control — it is only used locally to
authenticate your requests directly to Google's Gemini API.
Custom settings: Your selected AI model and custom prompt preferences
are also stored locally on your device in the same way.
What We Do NOT Do
We do not operate any backend server that receives, stores, or logs your data.
We do not sell, share, or transmit your data to anyone other than Google's Gemini API, which is required for the extension's core functionality.
We do not track your browsing activity beyond the specific text you choose to select and submit.
You can delete your stored API key and preferences at any time by clearing the extension's
data via Chrome's extension settings, or by uninstalling the extension.
